BE CAREFUL HOW YOU SPEND YOUR ADVERTISING DOLLARS. IT GOES VERY QUICKLY!!
Promoting the site is extremely important and all the work you have done to this point is meaningless without promoting the site. Promoting can be done in many ways. Without a big budget for this and expert advise I would suggest you do not attempt the PPC (pay per click) advertising promotion method. This is comparable to buying stocks or gambling. You had better know what you are doing.
Email marketing either targeted or not is a risk. There are so many doing this now I think most people don't even bother to open emails unless they are sure who is sending the email. I tried email marketing. It was targeted and I sent (supposedly) a million a day. What did go out seemed to go to 'junk' mail and my results after a month was zero response. This is not cheap either. I would suggest you try this type of promotion after you have made income from your website. The very best targeted mailing list is the one you gather from the submit forms on your web page.
FIRST THINGS FIRST:
The first thing you do is submit your site to free search engines. There are tons and tons of small search engines. Many have a FREE SUBMIT that you can do manually. Possibly the best way to submit to these small search engines with through a paid membership where the company submits monthly for you. Some offer top listings if they pay for their membership and if you place their advertising on your web page. This is not a bad way to start. The investment is very small. There is always a debate online about whether it is worth while to submit to small search engines. A lot of pros and cons about the topic in general. Of course if you have a big advertising budget you would concentrate on Google and Yahoo. On a shoe-string start up budget, the small fee each month to be submitted to the small search engines seems a good way to begin.
The top search engines are of course GOOGLE, YAHOO, and MSN. The first thing I do when creating a website is submit and verify the site or the blog with Google. This is the link to follow: Google Webmaster Tools Dashboard If you do not have an account with Google, sign up is easy and it is free. Where it says "Add Site" simply put in your website address using the http:// and then click on the Add Site link. This will take you to a page where you can verify your site. You don't have to verify your site but why not. It gives you information about your site and it is FREE. The easiest way to verity is to ask for the meta tag to use and then do a copy and paste into your site html code. Plug it into the last position of your meta tag dialog you are using just before the body. Go back to the verify your site page after you publish the meta tag line and click on verify. If you have done it correctly, it will tell you you have successfully verified your website. It then adds your verified site to your dashboard list of web pages you have or will submit. Now the robot will crawl your site for Google Search Engine placement. If you have keywords, title and description and contents correctly written, the robot will be happy and you will eventually...and I mean EVENTUALLY...placed in a high and happy place on the search engine. What is the difference? High ranking means millions will see your website instead of HUNDREDS. Its all a numbers game! An amazing website that cannot be found is not going to mean anything to you except something to show your friends.
SECOND PLACE TO GO:
The next place to go is to submit to YAHOO Free Submit. Here is the link: Yahoo Free Site Submit The first option on the page is Submit My Site For Free. Click on that and enter your url (website address using http://). That's it for Yahoo. Now you will see where your submit was successful and in a few weeks the robot for Yahoo will crawl your page.
NOW SPEND SOME TIME SUBMITTING TO FREE SUBMIT SITES:
AIM Search engine free submit is: AIM Here are a couple more sites that I use and believe are very good. Please go to Submit Express and take advantage of all the FREE services they offer. I think they are amazing and all they ask is that their link in placed on your web page. Really, really well worth it I think.
